Apple TV is plotting a return to the mystery comedy genre. The streamer is developing Bad News Dads, a half-hour comedy starring and executive produced by James Marsden. It comes from You’re the Worst creator Stephen Falk, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television where Greg Berlanti is under an overall deal.

Based on the upcoming novel by Adam Frost, Bad News Dads is about an inept men’s baseball rec league team where one of the players’ wives dies in a suspicious accident, and the friendship-starved Ben (Marsden) leads two of his teammates in an impromptu and often misguided investigation into what they increasingly come to think was murder.

While the title and baseball team setting are clearly a wink to Bad News Bears, the book is an original idea in a different genre that has no connection to the classic sports movie.

Returning to Cyclops has always been in the back of James Marsden‘s mind!

The 52-year-old actor is stepping back into the character’s shoes for Avengers: Doomsday years after starring as Scott Summers/Cyclops in the original X-Men franchise. At San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) on Saturday, July 25, he admitted to PEOPLE that he always “hoped” to play the hero again, even when he thought it was a pipe dream.

Asked if there were ever moments he thought he wouldn’t play Cyclops ever again, Marsden said in the Marvel Studios press line, “Yeah, many times.”

The two worlds of “Jury Duty” are about to collide.

Prime Video announced Friday that the streamer will release two special episodes on April 10, a week after the finale of “Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat.” James Marsden, who picked up an Emmy nomination for his turn in the first season of “Jury Duty,” will host both episodes.

The first episode, titled “The Reunion,” will see “Company Retreat” “hero” (or the only non-actor on the show) Anthony Norman reunite with the whole cast of the elaborate prank series he unwittingly found himself at the center of. In the second episode, titled “The Meeting,” Anthony will meet Ronald Gladden, who served as the hero/non-actor for the original season of “Jury Duty,” for the first time.

Jury Duty may be over, but James Marsden’s friendship with Ronald Gladden is still going strong.
